African Tales at the Musée Du Quai Branly in Paris

Welcome to the Musée du Quai Branly, an indigenous museum featuring art and culture from America, Asia, Africa and the Pacific, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel.

We went there with my sister for an African Tales storytelling time.

The storyteller told us a tale for each important African symbol. She brought African instruments for the stories to be more lively. There was a kalimba, bells, rattles, a mouthbow to bring suspense and intrigue to the story, and a thunder box to create the impression of rain.

The tales took 5-10 min each and my favorite tale was the one about a boy, who lives with his grandma and 4 animals, a dog, a rooster, a cow and a horse. The storyteller imitated the animal voices so well that we kept laughing because it was so funny.

We had a lot of fun after storytelling and took pictures of the interesting African statues, clothes … It was a fun experience knowing about African culture and it has a very different style of art than the other continents like Asia, the Pacific and America.

After the visit we hung out in the garden to snack on sandwiches, the wind blew on the plants and leaves were dancing in the blue sky.
